I bought an epilator last year and it was awful. It was so awful in fact that I’m not even sure where it is. A few months after it disappeared from my life, I discovered to my surprise that an associate of mine epilated her entire body, every day! ‘You obviously have the wrong epilator’ she said to me, shaking her head sadly. On that day I endeavoured to find the right epilator for my hair removal needs, and now I believe I have!
The Braun Silk Epil Xpressive Wet & Dry is very pretty, the sort of thing you wouldn’t mind
lying around your bathroom if friends turned up unexpectedly. Sleek, clean-looking and even sparkles in the light like
Edward Cullen in the sun. In the box with the Silk Epil you will notice a bag containinga few different accessories. I
was baffled at first as to what they were all for, until I lay them out and referred to the instruction booklet.
It all made sense then. There is the massage head, the underarm cap, the precision cap (which does small areas like the
face), it even has a shaver and trimming head.
Once on its noisy, so not the sort of thing you’d use while your housemates are sleeping. I needed the instructions to get the Silk Epil started, but once it was on I got a surprise. It has a very bright light situated right under the head. According to the instructions, this light is supposed to emulate ‘daylight’ conditions. The day I used the Silk Epil it was a dark, dreary English day, yet the light allowed me to see every hair on my leg. If you lived alone and owned a set of headphones, this would be very useful in front of the TV.
On my first day with the Silk Epil I epilated everything. I did the first leg dry but as the instructions said the Silk Epil can be used wet (with Shaving Gel!) I immediately ran a bath. When I told my partner I was going to epilate my bikini line in the bath I got a rather interesting horrified expression. It was surprisingly undramatic however and I came out of that bathroom in one piece. The epilation became a lot easier once all my bits were lathered up.
One of my favourite things about the Silk Epil (apart from being able to use it in the bath!) is its ability to
contour... I have bony knees, and my last epilator just couldn’t cope. This one however, is marvellous. The first
time I took it over my knees it moulded, allowing me to get every last little hair. The same was true when I got
to my bikini line and underarms.
If you’ve never used an epilator before, you’re probably wondering about PAIN. So did I the first time.
Yes it hurts sometimes, particularly if your hairs are long. In fact the instructions suggest that if you do have very
long hairs, to use the shaving attachment first and then wait for the hair to grow to the required length. I only had a
couple of day’s growth and the Silk Epil worked beautifully. Unfortunately, my underarms were a bit longer and they
hurt! I’ve been reliably informed that the more I use my epilator the less likely I am to feel any pain. All I know
is that waxing is expensive and my Silk Epil works just as well. I woke up the next day after the Silk Epil Xpressive and
all was fine, smooth and very sexy. Plus it gave me an excuse to ask everyone to feel my legs... for research purposes of
course.
Today I am a very happy reviewer 10/10
