Whoever it was that came up with this product has probably lived with someone like me. Many times I have left the house completely unaware of my straighteners still roasting on the carpet. Often I didn't realise my mistake until arriving home (or when someone else found them first!). The Grip-eze is the 'so simple I wish I'd thought of it' answer to dealing with hot hair appliances on carpet. It's such a good idea actually, that it even came on holiday with me.
The Grip-eze is a heat-resistant, non-slip mat which is supposed to 'warn' you when your hair appliances are hot. When I first received the Grip-eze I had no idea how this was achieved. After placing a running hairdryer on the mat for a few minutes I was confused no longer. The dark grey Grip-eze mat turns white when exposed to direct heat. So now, rather than having to burn my fingers or check the 'on' switch, I only have to glance at the mat to see if my hair appliances are hot or not.
Another big surprise is how little heat the Grip-eze absorbs. Even after having hair straighteners left on for 15 minutes, the mat is still safe for me to touch. Plus, once the straighteners are removed, the mat begins to cool down almost immediately. This is useful for two reasons; If I don't have time to wait for the straighteners to cool down, I can instead wrap them up in the mat for safe-keeping. Or, if I'm having a ditzy moment and forget to turn the straighteners off (again), the mat will not only absorb most of the heat, but will also prevent other peoples fingers, the carpet and hopefully anything else from getting seared while I'm away.
The big bonus of the Grip-eze however is travelling. The mat not only protected my hair straighteners while they were rattling around in my suitcase, it also meant that I could throw said straighteners straight back into my bag as soon as I'd finished my hair. The Grip-eze is a very cool product, I just wish I'd thought of it first!
