Occasionally there is a gadget that is pure genius; that incorporates great technology and works like a dream that when we come to write about it we don't really know what to say beyond
"Pure genius; incorporates great technology and works like a dream" [roll your eyes in sympathy, please]
The Polaroid PoGo - a truly pocket sized, instant photograph printing machine fits the category to a T.
However I shall try to embellish on the above somewhat...
I was in a bit of a rush this evening so having remembered to charge
the little pink box up - slightly bigger but no thicker than a cigarette
packet - the little pink box being the printer, I hadn't gotten
much beyond that point.
The long suffering CB [my web designer & reviewer] arrived and without much ado beyond
"Would you mind making me a coffee", I simultaneously asked [ok, told *sigh*]
her to set up the Polaroid PoGo.
Within moments gurgles and "arghs" of sheer geek appreciation could be heard
over my right shoulder. Downing tools - ignoring Excel 2007 - I turned to find CB watching
a small wallet sized photograph emerge not too slowly from the aforementioned black box.
One could barely hear it!
Somewhat taken aback at the speed of the operation - she'd
had to set the entire thing up from scratch, I asked her about the
process of linking the phone (via Bluetooth), loading the paper
etc.
Her technical response was,
"It's a doddle"
Hurumph. I wanted a go. I told my phone to find local Bluetooth devices and within seconds it located the PoGo across the table. I entered a four digit code, as the instructions stated, picked a photograph from my phone and ... voila! One photo printed out in less than a minute. The quality was superb.
The system can print via Bluetooth or cable - handy standard sized USB port built in. There's both a European and UK connection for charging the device and the paperwork is clear, simple and blissfully sufficient without drowning you in useless - oft overwhelming- crud. A warranty, clear graphic instructions, customer service numbers for almost every conceivable country and an extra card with the 4 digit pairing code (I liked that a lot - it's so unnerving when you forget them)
The advanced technical points can be found at www.polaroid.com if you really need to know. We didn't.
However, after printing out numerous photographs with much additional coo-ing it was time to judge if this device was worth its RRP £99.99 price tag.... (30 sheets of tear-proof, water-proof, smear-proof sticky backed photography paper at 2" x 3" an additional RRP £6.99)...
