I've wanted a new Mouse for a long time. Well, since Alex got a super-slick, advanced technology, beast of a mouse anyway. So to my utter pleasure the Gyration Air Mouse found its way to me.
The Gyration Air is a wireless mouse which can also be used in the air. This allows you the freedom to move away from your desk, very useful for presentations or even just to stretch your legs. The Air Mouse on the desk works like a regular mouse, only sleeker and more comfortable in your hand.
In the air, the Air Mouse requires a wrist action which took a little practice to get right. Mastering wrist action being my forte, I soon discovered that the Air Mouse is just as accurate in air as on land, aided by the light weight of the mouse itself.
It's powered by two AAA batteries and comes with a USB stick to sync the Air Mouse to your computer. The one I reviewed was the Travel version, so it also comes with its own case and a slot at the back of the mouse to insert the USB for safe-keeping.
All of that is a good start but there's more to this Mouse if you keep looking.
Atop the Air Mouse is a diamond of other controls. Upon perusing the accompanying CD I discovered the buttons are there to take over some of the desktop functions. Your Air Mouse can be programmed to open a browser for the internet, or move forward and back between pages with just a flick of the wrist. Else you can highlight text on your computer, close a document in Windows, or even start a CD. The best thing is that each button can have a different function depending on whether you are online, using PowerPoint, or just entering data via the Keypad. Just imagine giving a presentation using Powerpoint – no more leaning down to tap a button on your laptop, just flick your wrist.
To configure the buttons with the functions is easy as going into the Air Mouse program to access your profile. From there you drag the required icons into the appropriate boxes. You don't even need much of your own memory to remember which function goes with what.
Compared to my old mouse this one is a vast improvement. Even Alex was impressed
as my Air Mouse allows you to decide whether to activate the 'in-air' functionality
or not; a feature she'd quite like to have on hers. Whether you're thinking
of moving to wireless, or are just looking for an upgrade, the Air Mouse
is a nifty little device.
