Ok, before I even start the review, I have to say, I quite liked these. In fact, if it wasn’t for the price, I’d own a pair already.
On first impressions, I thought I’d bought a new compact pressed powder for my handbag. Yes, these little babies come packaged in a rather stylish, if somewhat bulky, circular casing. You simply twist and lift and hidden inside are the smallest set of headphones I’ve ever seen.
Not one for reading the literature I started wondering how on earth these worked, I mean, you can’t put a battery in them, and there is certainly no charger point - oh how wrong I was! After admitting defeat and picking up the user guide, all became clear. There was a hidden charger point just inside the right ear, and cleverly Sony Ericsson and designed it to use part of a standard Sony Ericsson phone charger so if you already own a Sony Ericsson phone, this nifty bit of kit will slot into your life quite easily.
Connecting the headset to your phone is quite straightforward, press the call button until the little light changes
from a white light to a flashing red/green indicator and voila it is able to be picked up on your phone. That same button
also answers any calls, and turns the headset on and off. In fact, that is the only button in sight. You can’t
change the volume with these headsets, they instead have “automatic volume adjustment”.
So I went about testing these on both a Sony Ericsson phone (W205), and a Blackberry (just to see if there was a difference). My first impressions were impressive, because the wire slips round the back of my neck, it is almost invisible. The actual earbuds are slightly larger than normal due to holding the battery and transmitter, but they are very comfortable and come supplied with three different sized sponge covers so they should fit any ear.
The quality that comes out of these tiny headphones when listening to music is quite impressive for wireless headphones, they have good quality bass, and because they are in-ear, the people around you can’t hear your music! They can only manage 4 hours of actual use, so I think these would work better as an occasional use for music on a mobile and calls as opposed to using to listen to music to and from work as well as answering calls.
They have a 10 meter connection via Bluetooth, which happily allowed me to wander around the house seeing how far from my phone I could go. Upon reaching the kitchen, I was out of range, and I was disconnected. What was great though was when I walked back into range, they simply picked back up, so once these headphones are connected to your phone, they just connect upon turning on. Very user friendly!
Next test was to take a call, so my willing girlfriend became my guinea pig as I called her mobile. After a few minutes it became clear that whilst I could hear her wonderfully, she was not so impressed. Not that they weren’t brilliant, but just “not as clear as when you call me from your speakerphone or from your normal Bluetooth headset”.
Overall these are beautiful, stylish, small and have good quality sound. If you don’t care that the person on the other end of the phone is getting slightly less quality sound from you, then there is no reason not to pick up a pair - although I’ll be waiting for the price to come down slightly!
