Some of you may remember back when I first reviewed the Power Plate. Thinking it was going to be incredibly tough, I discovered I was half right. Good for a really hard workout, it also gives a great massage. In that half an hour I discovered a brand new respect for people who incorporated the Power Plate into their workout. It’s a great way to get fit and now it's even better!

The power plate people got hold of us recently to offer me a trial with the new and improved version of their machine. As I headed out the door, Alex asked me, ‘How different can it be?’ I had no idea. It was hard to imagine what they could have changed.

Rather than heading to Harrods, I went instead to The Academy in Primrose Hill, where I met Lars - the man who trains the trainers and is an avid fan of the Plate. Talking me through the many wonders of the plate he led me over to their brand new creation. While he explained how the controls had been adjusted due to the balance of the platform changing, I looked upon this new beast. It looked just like the original plate, but with one major difference. The wonderful people at Power Plate had incorporated a cable system, adding a whole new dynamic to your workout. Fabulous!

If you don’t know what a Cable System is, take a look around your gym to where the boys are. The cables are very popular among the men as they allow a huge variety of resistance exercises to work the upper body and the core. Not having cellulite or worrying about thick thighs, men are the ‘missing market’ for the power plate, with over 70% of plate users being women. The new Power Plate aka the pro6 model, is expected to change that.

Did I mention that the Power Plate can reduce your cellulite? There is also very strong evidence that the plate can reduce visceral fat (fat that surrounds your internal organs) and help resolve muscle injuries faster. What I personally like about the Power plate is that it can cut your workout time in half. No need to spend an hour in the gym, instead I spend half an hour on the plate and the rest in the spa. With the new cable system you can do even more in that half an hour and your workout should be far more interesting.

On the same day I also had the opportunity to examine the home version of InBody - the R20. A smaller version of the original, it works in much the same way. While the studio version gives you far more information than you need, the R20 just gives you the basics (BMI, WHR, TBW) for an informed record of your changing shape. Currently it’s only available in red yet I believe there are plans to bring out more colours in the future.

How do I feel about the brand new pro6 machine? I love it. It may be for the purpose of attracting the boys, but I think it will have an equally valuable role of introducing the benefits of cable to the girls. The dynamic nature of the cable system also makes the Power Plate far more fun and mentally rewarding than the older system. Unfortunately I gave the last version of the Power Plate 9/10, so consider this my new and improved version of 9/10.
