Tefal Toast N' Grill (Bacon)
Review by Kat

score: 9 out of 10

Product: Tefal Toast N' Grill (Bacon)

The Tefal Toast n’Grill does exactly what it says on the tin. It toasts and it… well it basically grills. I’m pretty sure it could solve world peace and give birth to the Second Coming as well if it put its mind to it, it’s that good.

Set-up is easy; just whack the plug in, give the toasting bit a run-through for good luck (or because the manual says so – although I’m not sure what this does apart from toast dust) and give the trays inside the grill a quick wash.

If you’re a toast connoisseur then I guess this will float your carb-filled boat. As far as toasters go it gave a nice, even, all-over tan sorry, toast and can fit anything in there from small slices to bagels. Burn it to bits or barely heat it up, the settings are pretty self-explanatory; 1 for just licked and 6 for totally charred. Simples.

It’s the grill where this thing really come into its own though. We kept it in the office and put it through some rigorous ‘consumer testing’, whacking everything from cheese on toast to grilled tomatoes to bacon and sausages and even full on home made burgers. It handled them all just like a grill in a regular oven would. Just switch from ‘toast’ mode to ‘grill’, turn the dial to the temperature you need as noted in the handy instruction book and voila! Even the burgers, which were pretty damn fat to be fair, were cooked totally through to the middle and not burnt to a crisp on the outside.

Product: Tefal Toast N' Grill (Bacon) Cleaning is easy too; the rack comes out, the trays are both dishwasher-proof and because it’s got the grill door that comes down at the front, cleaning those pesky toast crumbs is an absolute doddle, compared to my normal toaster anyway, which I have to hang upside down over the bin and bang on the bottom like a newborn child.

It does look like something from the homes exhibition of a 1950s ‘Fayre of the Future’ but if you’ve got limited space at home, you want something more substantial than just toast in the office, or your own grill has completely packed it in and you can’t afford to shell out for a new one, then the Tefal Toast n’Grill is most definitely for you.

Available from www.homeandcook.co.uk and other online and retail outlets, with an RRP of £64.99.
