Going to a festival this year? Then you'll want to pack these, trust me.
Okay, so they don't have a sexy name. In fact they're
not sexy at all. Yet they have three BIG things going for them.
1. They ARE cute.
2. They're highly effective.
3. They're incredibly well priced.
The blurb is that they are ... tell you what, read that bit at the end if you must. Let's get to the nitty-gritty about these toys.
Firstly, they really are tiny. I don't have overly big hands and yet I can wrap one up in my fist. That said, there is no sense of the things being fragile; quite the contrary, they feel despite the lightness of weight, superbly robust. I must admit I haven't dropped them yet (that day will no doubt come) but I sense they'll survive.
Kitted out with a lightweight charger (including rechargeable batteries), belt clips and earphones with built in microphone (with Voice Control, would you believe it!), the Doro wt87's are ready to take to Glastonbury after their first charge (there's a PDF download for instructions which show they require a 10hr charge, have approximately a 35hr standby and two hour operational time - not bad at all!)
All too often at big events like Glastonbury Festival the mobile
phone services can lock out. Constant engaged tones; texts that
haven't delivered. It can be a real nightmare. Or you're
on holiday and your friends have disappeared without you to another
.. er.. pub / coffee shop / oh, museum! You've two choices.
Grab your cell phone and have the call bounce half way around the
World with a charge to go with it or put your ear-piece in, press
the mic' button and give them a rollicking - for free!
Better still, stroll down to the pool and one of these is light
enough to clip to your bikini. Realizing your Pimms has run out
and you-know-who is still in the villa, just press that button,
" Darhling, would you mind ..." Just remember to use a voice that makes it more
a statement than a question. I should clarify that Doro WT87 can't be held responsible for
this suggestion.
I tested these with a friend who had never used a walkie-talkie before and better still, we didn't even bother looking at the instructions. Setting the matching channel, adjusting the volume - none of it was difficult. The screen lights up so there's no unnecessary fiddling in the middle of the night. There was a moment of disappointment when it seemed one of the ear-pieces wasn't working but it was our failing - the socket is nicely secure and it just needed pushing in properly and then hey presto, success!
These walkie-talkies are a great bit of kit and well worth the
RRP £39.99.
