May 10

I’m not exactly in the demographic of this game, in that I believe it is designed for young teenage girls, however I love make-up and have a fairly good sense of clothes sense, and I have a DS so I decided to give this a go.
It is designed as a platform game, with various stages endorsed by Lauren Luke, a make-up artist. Each stage you have
to clothe, accessorize and do the make-up for a model. Then three judges score you out of 10 for each area, with a total
score out of 30. Seems simple enough right?
“Welcome to the glamorous world of fashion, make-up and style. Do you have what it takes to become the ultimate fashionista? Let the contest begin...”
I can’t get past level one. Seriously. I even gave it to my younger work colleague (20) and she couldn’t either. Before you jump to conclusions, I’m not rubbish at fashion... I got top marks for clothing, and for accessories, however I couldn’t get above 4 out of 10 for make-up. You can’t move onto the next level until you complete this one.
Every time you get a not so helpful message (Hia, the judges have decided you need a little more practice in this look, you scored 16! But don’t worry I’m here to help with the make-up so I’ll see you in stage 2, Zoom Zoom) not sure what the zoom, zoom is about – but I can’t get to level 2 so her tips won’t help me!!!!
I tried 6 times, and gave up.. ok, so I am a typical Gemini, I changed my mind and got through the first round on what I
promised myself was my last attempt.
This sent me through to a pairs game where I had to match the cards with the same image in under 30 seconds. Not sure what the point of this was. The good news is that if you get past level 1 it unlocks the other modes,
- freestyle mode (unlock extra clothes for individual looks),
- mini-games (have a break from styling your model),
- my portfolio (check out the looks you’ve created in each contest) and
- make-up tutorial (step-by-step stages of applying make-up by Lauren Luke).
The make-up tutorial is completely pointless. It is just the make-up section from the contest, so a complete duplicate of information. Also, My Portfolio is just a headshot of your look, not the whole thing, which I guess highlights the fact that it is endorsed by a make-up artist, and that this is the main point behind it. Not sure I would learn much about make up application from this game though...
Overall, quite disappointing.
Supermodel Makeover has an RRP of £19.56, is available online from Amazon and at all usual retailers.
