Zenses (Nintendo DS)
Review by Nina

score: 10 out of 10

Product: Zenses (Nintendo DS)

"Zenses" is the latest offering from The Game Factory. Designed for the Nintendo DS and created to provide "active relaxation", which basically means playing the game will help you relax your mind and your body. There are two games available in the collection - Zenses Ocean and Zenses Rainforest.

Now I have to confess I am late starter when it comes to modern consumer technology. I still love my tapes and vinyl and I was late convert to CDs and the iPod. So I am always a little wary when it comes to trying new technology. My younger techno whizz brother brought me a Nintendo DS and a whole stack of games last Christmas.

Confession number 2 these did include old arcade games I used to love as a child and I was amazed how things have come on in the world that I can now play Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands on a DS. My point is I am fussy and it takes a lot to make me change my ways (If it ain't broke and all that!).

However when the Zenses game arrived, I tore off the package and inserted the game into my DS. I didn't read the instructions (I never do unless I have to) and honestly I didn't need to. Zenses Oceans was easy to follow and understand. There are six games available on each of the Zenses games with up to 50 difficulty levels and hidden bonus rounds. Inspired by the natural world, the theme to Zenses Ocean is the ocean (obviously) and sea creatures. The games on Zenses Ocean are Zen Stones, Pearl Diver, Turtle Turn, Hot Spot, Shell Twirl and Wave Breaker. I tried all 6 all in one sitting.

I did initially think these looked (note the word "looked") easy but I was wrong. Although they are easy to understand, the more I progressed the more challenging the games became. I didn't lose interest and found myself becoming quite competitive, wanting to do better and get higher scores. My favourite games were Zen Stones, Pearl Diver and Shell Twirl. I found the games highly addictive and didn't want to stop playing them. In addition, the game is accompanied by the soothing sound of ocean breezes and waves and nice as these are, I personally don't like sound on any of my DS games and also because it is distracting for those around me. (Yes I have no shame, I play in the presence of company).

I really like this product and will not stop playing it (I have high scores to beat!) It made me concentrate and forget about everything else I've been stressing about lately. It's a keeper!

Zenses Ocean and Zenses Rainforest are available now from The Game Factory, retailing at £24.99
