It's a very simple premise; take the current trend for liquid air fresheners, hundreds of variations of which seem to be available for your home, and make them available for the car, which for years has only had fragrance soaked, shaped cardboard options available. The 'For Her' is just one of the Ambi Pur range aiming to fill this gap.
To look at, it's fairly basic, small, plastic, and with a swirling abstract, pinkish design on the front identifying it as the 'For Her' rather than 'For Him' model, other than that the devices themselves are identical. It plugs very simply into any of the air vents on the dashboard, and has a slider to allow you to adjust the amount of fragrance released. The bottle is clear glass, making it easy to see how much has been used up. Like similar in house models the bottle of scent plugs up inside the unit, and is held secure by mouldings on the bottle. The scent supplied is described as "a cheerful and vibrant aroma of peach complimented by heart of rose and gardenia" which has been designed specifically to appeal to feminine senses.
Now, I freely admit that peach & rose isn't a scent I'd usually opt for, but it wasn't bad at all. Car fresheners often overpower, but this one was subtle, and left the car smelling fresh rather than flowery. And the unit was certainly easy to fit, and seemed secure once mounted (I had to give a really good tug to detach it when I changed my mind about where to site it!) The slider worked well, allowing full control over the strength of the scent, and having an off position means you can take a break from it if you decide.
Personally, I'd really prefer to see a narrower design, as it looked a little bulky on the smooth lines of my dash, but I guess the size of the bottle acts as a constraint to that. It's not a big problem though, and certainly doesn't count against the product.
So, would I buy it?
It retails for about £4.99, and the refills are around £3 so it's certainly
reasonably priced, and with a low strength setting could last a couple of months, which
seems good value. The scent wasn't really my taste, but the others of the in car range will
fit just as well, so overall, it gets a definite thumbs up from me.
