I'm not giving it back. Ever. You can send me letters, stalk me, I don't care. It's a magic box and it's now my Precious.
In fact, I love this thing so much, I almost don't want to review it in case they forgot they sent it to us and do want it back. It has, quite literally, changed my life.
Over dramatic? Nope. I live in a central London flat with a great postcode. The downside is that we have a chuffing enormous hotel that is slap bang in the way of all signal for TV and SKY (can't get it at all) and for some reason, our broadband has always been rubbish - intermittent and slow. Add to that the fact that my flatmate and I have not been blessed with any savvy about how to get the right codes out of AOL for anything, and you have a flat that was never going to get wireless, with two 30-something women forced to talk to each other or read in the evenings. How terribly 18th century!
This kit from BT Fonera is so simple that I managed to hook it up in less than an hour. I have not been able to programme a video recorder since the one we had when I was 10 died. And yes, I still possess videos. Cutting edge I am not. My grandmother could have done this. It is idiot proof. I am the proof of that!
Would I recommend it? Already started word of mouth. Love it, love it, love it. I challenge anybody not to think it's amazing.
So, what does it do? Well it's magic, obviously! The router somehow sits on top of the existing connection and makes it stronger, enables wireless, and also creates a wireless hub that passing business people can connect to with their laptops - separate for security reasons from our bit. I don't really care about that bit to be honest, though the membership of a group that means you get discounted rates when you want to hook up to wireless hubs in other places will probably prove a bonus if you have that kind of life.
For me, it means that I can check my Facebook without getting out of bed, run my eBay empire while letting fake tan soak in without scarring my flatmate for life, and actually watch TV. Yes, actual TV. It may be via a laptop, but it's the best TV I've had access to in this flat since I moved in nearly 2 years ago. The speed improvements on our broadband is marked.
Do I recommend? Yes yes yes, go get one, get 5 and give them to your technically challenged friends and they will love you for life.
PS Seriously, if you want this box back, I may have to call the Samaritans.
